Chaldean numerology is the older of the two main systems and the one used across Indian numerology. Letters are valued 1–8 by sound rather than by alphabetical order, and 9 is left out as a sacred number. Chaldean vs Pythagorean
Pythagorean numerology assigns values in alphabetical order (A=1, B=2 … I=9, then repeats) and is the Western standard. Chaldean assigns values by the sound a letter makes, uses only 1–8, and is older — it is what Indian numerologists use for names, mobile numbers, PINs and passwords. Compound number and root number
Chaldean readings use two numbers. The compound number is the raw total before reducing (for example 37) and is said to describe the hidden influence; the root number is that total reduced to a single digit (3 + 7 = 10 → 1) and describes the outward effect. Both are shown above.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Chaldean numerology have no 9?
In the Chaldean system 9 is considered sacred and is not assigned to any letter. A name total can still reduce to 9 — no single letter is worth 9.
Which name should I calculate — full or short?
The name you are actually called by every day. Chaldean numerology reads the vibration you live with, which is usually the commonly used name rather than the full legal one.
What is a good Chaldean name number?

Do spaces, initials and surnames count?
Only letters are valued, so spaces and punctuation are ignored. Include the surname if you normally use it; calculate the first name alone as well, since many numerologists read the two separately.
Is Chaldean better than Pythagorean?
Neither is better — they are separate traditions. Chaldean is standard in Indian numerology and across this site; Pythagorean is the Western norm. Pick one and stay with it.
