What each one is like

Aries — first out of the gate. Starts things, says what it thinks, prefers acting to planning. The weakness is the follow-through, not the beginning.

Taurus — builds slowly and keeps what it builds. Patient, good with money, loyal, and very slow to change its mind once made up.

Gemini — quick, verbal, easily bored. Learns fast and explains well, then scatters across too many interests at once.

Cancer — protective of home and family, with a long memory for both kindness and slight. Reads a room instantly and takes criticism harder than it lets on.

Leo — leads by presence rather than argument. Generous and loyal, and genuinely hurt when the effort goes unnoticed.

Virgo — notices the detail everyone missed and fixes it. The same eye turned inward becomes the harshest critic it will ever have.

Libra — weighs both sides, which makes it fair and slow. Strong in partnership and negotiation, uncomfortable with open conflict.

Scorpio — commits completely or not at all. Excellent in research and in a crisis; the shadow is the grudge it will not put down.

Sagittarius — wants the bigger picture and the open road. Honest to a fault and allergic to being fenced in.

Capricorn — plays the long game and is usually right to. Reliable and self-contained; the risk is treating rest as failure.

Elements and qualities

Each sign has an element — Fire, Earth, Air or Water — which is the broad temperament, and a quality — Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable — which is how it handles change. Cardinal signs start things, Fixed signs hold them, Mutable signs adapt. Signs sharing an element are traditionally the easiest company for one another.

Born on a boundary day?

The sun changes sign at a particular hour, and that hour shifts slightly from year to year. If your birthday falls on the first or last day of a range you are on the cusp, and you genuinely could be either sign — only a chart cast for your exact birth time settles it. This is not your rashi

Everything above is the Western sun sign. Indian Vedic astrology uses the moon sign, or rashi, which is a different calculation on a different zodiac and frequently gives a different answer.
